Cherry Creek Off Leash Dog Park in Denver

Like many fur parents, I was apprehensive in taking my two pups, Brinley and Bailey, to dog parks. I had several bad experiences with my last dog and I didn’t want to repeat past mistakes. I got both pups in early 2020 (ironically the plan for adding to the family was pre-pandemic, but the timing lines up) and I continued to battle walking them both on leash through September 2021. Yes, I realize I need to hire Walking With Walter Dog Training! After many, many months of driving by Cherry Creek Off Leash Dog Park and seeing the lines that usually had formed by late morning, I decided to give it a chance. Best. Decision. Ever! It is nothing short of Doggy Paradise.

Cherry Creek Dog Park is the opposite of your typical cage match type setting that so many dog parks emulate. Enclosed, dirt mounds that have other brown mounds you must constantly avoid. Pet owners keeping an eagle eye out (or ignoring completely) for signs of trouble among the playing pups.

How Big is Cherry Creek Park?

Cherry Creek is acres and acres (107 acres to be exact) of 15 feet wide gravel paths, access to Cherry Creek for the water loving pups, and open space as far as the eye can see. It is the best mental therapy for pups and owners alike. While a typical visit has me walking 3-4 miles you can likely double that for Brinley and Bailey with all their zig zagging and running through the fields. It’s so much fun to watch them.

We’ve started a daily habit of getting to the park around 6am and we hope to continue our routine for the months and years to come. I highly encourage you to check it out and if you’re there in the early morning I guarantee Bailey will be greeting you! Brinley is more of the “stranger danger” variety.

What does it cost?

Cherry Creek is a Colorado State Park, so a Daily ($11) or Annual ($83) Vehicle Pass is required (Fee link). In addition to that, there is a separate Dog Off-Leash Area Pass (Area Link) that is required at $3 for a Daily Pass or only $25 for an Annual Pass that can be used at the Chatfield Dog-Off Leash Area (Link) as well. I will vouch that this nominal fee is well deserved. Cherry Creek has wonderful people frequently changing the abundant number of trash cans and cleaning up after that not so respectful dog owners. Let me know if you check it out! Your pups will thank you.
